  1. Barbara Diaz, NY, NY says:

Woman denied coverage for out-of-network hospital to treat rare tumor; premiums doubled, medication co-pay upped 100% to $1000+ (not a typo); appeal denied 9 times. Smacks of lack of choice, reduced benefits, & death panels, but it’s not a scary future public option scenario. It’s a scary happening-now private insurance scenario. Are the 47,000,000 who don’t have health insurance the smart ones? Why pay for what you won’t get anyway?
If every person who pays for his/her own insurance, and every employer or union or group providing insurance for their employees or members, stops paying all premiums, I think the health insurance companies, and our government, would take notice. If all the insurers care about is money, let’s just not give it to them. I am not the one to do it, but I wish someone would organize a general strike against paying insurance companies their premiums. Then they can decide if they want to do this right — or they can just go out of business and we’ll negotiate our health care directly with our providers. I bet it would cost a lot less.
